She completed her undergraduate work in Medical Communications and later received her MS and PhD in Epidemiology from Ohio State University. She worked as an epidemiologist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the area of cancer risk assessment before relocating to Atlanta in 1984 to work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the Agent Orange Projects. She was also instrumental in developing the Society's Cancer Prevention Studies into major resources for groundbreaking research on air pollution, nutrition, physical activity, medications, and inherited susceptibility genes. She served as a member of the National Cancer Institute's Board of Scientific Counselors, the American Epidemiological Society, as an adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, and on the editorial boards of several prominent cancer journals. Before her retirement just two weeks ago, Jeanne most recently served as the Vice President of Epidemiology at the ACS's National Home Office. Jeanne brought a formidable intellect and passion to her work as well as to her life outside of work. She loved to travel and enjoyed documenting her trips through her photography.
