Thomas Peter
Lombardo died in his sleep at home on September 8,
2008 at the age of 86.
Tom was born
the 17th of January, 1922 in Manhattan NY to Flavia Demarco
Lombardo and Pietro Lombardo, both of whom were born in Italy and came to
America in 1920. Tom graduated from Stuyvesant High School and continued
his education at New York University where he obtained a degree in
Aeronautical Engineering. He immediately enlisted in the service where he
became a Captain with the United States Army Air Force. During World War
II he was stationed in Africa and Egypt, where he was head of maintenance
for the Air Force's B-29 Superfortress.
Tom also lived
in Miami, Florida, Dallas, Texas, Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida and Atlanta, Georgia where he lived the
majority of his life. In the late 1960’s, Tom started his own
aeronautical consulting business, LOMTEK Corporation, in which the
majority of his work was investigating and determining the cause of
airplane crashes. Tom retired at age 75 and has been in failing health for
the last few years.
Tom was
predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Lady Cruse Lombardo by only 43 days.
He is survived by his three children all of the Atlanta area. Lady Kim
Lombardo, Deborah Turner Sackner and her husband Robert and Thomas Michael
Lombardo and his wife Tanya. Three grandchildren,
Natalie Burgess Turner, Lindsey Lombardo Turner, Olivia Lanier Lombardo,
and sister in-law Bobbee Cruse Norvell.
Private family
service and internment will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In lieu of
